Fiona B MacGregor

Fiona MacGregor is a consultant otolaryngologist specialising in conditions of the throat and voice. She graduated from Edinburgh University Medical School in 1986 and undertook her initial surgical training in Edinburgh and Glasgow. She then worked at the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London. She also trained at the Middlesex and Hammersmith Hospitals before returning to Glasgow, taking up a consultant post at Gartnavel General Hospital in 1997. In 2015 she joined the adult ENT Department at the new Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and now solely cares for adult patients.

Her main interests include sore throat, tonsillitis, swallowing difficulties and voice disorders. She also has a specialist interest in head and neck lumps both benign and malignant (including thyroid). She is particularly interested in the voice and the professional voice user and she runs a specialist voice clinic in her NHS practice. She has worked with many professional voice users including singers, actors and teachers. Her interest in voice began when she trained at one of the earliest established multidisciplinary voice clinics in London in the early 1990s.

She is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Glasgow University and is a Royal College Examiner for the Intercollegiate Specialty Board in Otorhinolaryngology. She is a past chairman of the Scottish Otolaryngological Society (now ENT Scotland) and is a council member of ENT UK. She is a member of the British Voice Association, The British Laryngological Association, The British Association of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgeons and the Royal Society of Medicine.

She has taught in a number of national courses and has been an invited speaker at the British Academic Conference in Otolaryngology and the Royal Society of Medicine. She has published a number of papers on laryngology and head and neck surgery and has written several book chapters on her specialist interests.
